About Thrissur District
Thrissur (Trichur) is universally acknowledged as the Cultural Capital of Kerala. The city is centered around the Vadakkunnathan Temple and its famous Thekkinkadu Maidan, where the spectacular Thrissur Pooram — the 'mother of all festivals' — takes place every year with 30 caparisoned elephants and competitive fireworks. Guruvayur, home to one of India's most sacred Krishna temples, draws thousands of pilgrims daily. The district is also the heartland of Kerala's classical arts, including Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, and the unique Koodiyattam theatre tradition recognized by UNESCO.
